From the fig tree learn this lesson: as soon as its young shoots become soft and tender and it puts out its leaves, you know of a surety that summer is near.” Matthew 24:32
I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was the morning start shining right through my window. It appeared so big. I could not resist moving to my window for a closer view. And there it was, the sky full of many bright stars which although smaller than the one that woke me up, appeared bigger than usual. When was the last time I saw such a sky. It was amazing. We had travelled through winter and coldness with nights full of fog and cloudy days. The sky was beginning to brighten up. For 6am, this is unusual in winter. Just like it´s earlier rise, the sun sets later now. So it could only add up to one thing. Winter is ending. I knew the worst is behind me. And spring is coming with the warmth, the light, the sky, and breeze.
I remember as a child, I always loved to look at the stars, sunrise and set, play in the heavy rain and gather some hail-ice. I loved it but it seemed normal. I could not imagine going months without these and maybe I took them for granted on some occasions. But now, I appreciate them when they occur.
But one thing I have learnt from the long winter days is to wait, to wait patiently for the summer as I look out for its signs. Just like Jesus advised us to wait on him and keep watch to the signs of his coming. When he comes, it will be like the summer arriving but in the meantime, let us endure through the tough winter conditions as we look out for the signs of spring.
