“But whoever drinks the water I will give him will never be thirsty again! On the contrary, the water I give him will become a spring of water inside him, welling up into eternal life!” John 4:14
Water is a very important element of our lives. It is one basic need our bodies need every single day. Going without water makes us thirsty, but going for days without water can even lead to loss of life. And yet, Christ for the first time in John 4 took this need and use for water to a whole new level. Suddenly, it was not water as we know it that he was talking about. This water is extraordinary. There are some characteristics that make it stand out.
This Water is a gift of God. Which means we d not have to pay for it or earn it. Only Jesus gives this kind of water. “…the water I will give…” But we must be willing to drink it. It is our choice. It´s benefits only come to “whoever drinks” it. One of the out standing Benefits of this water is that one you drink from it, you “will never be thirsty again!” It takes away all the thirst not because one drink is enough but because “the water I give him will become a spring of water”, welling up into eternal life!” as it is the source of eternal life. This is living Water (verse 10).
Jesus is the living water. He was given to us by God so that we might have life eternal. You don´t have to live your life searching endlessly for a meaning, your purpose, the feeling of fulfilment, all in vain. The true peace, and meaning of life is only found in Christ. see if our bodies, which are only for a while, have an enormous need for basic water, how much more do our spirits, need the living water? Sometimes we thirst for something and yet when we have it, we are still just as thirsty. this longing and emptiness does not seem to go away. Well it could be that it is actually your spirit that is thirsty and needs a drink. This thirst is a good thing. It makes us aware of our need for the living water. Without this water, we would perish.
The good news is there is a calling to the fountains of Christ. A calling for us to embrace Live and life in it´s abundance. “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:37-38). So look no further. Come to the source that will take away the emptiness and lnging you feel inside. Let Christ flow in your heart and let the springs of living water be seen in all aspects of your life. May this be your testimony “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation” (Isaiah 12:3).
