Choosing God

Why God gave us a freedom of choice

Have you ever wondered why God, knowing that Adam would disobey him, put the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden? Why He stood by and watched us sin ourselves through history? Why He let all the evil things happen yet He knows they will before they do?

Well try to imagine what it would be like if we lived forever, without knowing what the results of sin would be but knowing God kept the choice from us. Imagine a God who would force His creation to worship Him and keep them from doing what they want. Would He still be good?

God is good and just, He wants us to live freely, and choose freely. That is why He gives us instructions and guidelines to keep us from death, but does not force the right decision on us.

God´s saving plan

God knew everything before the beginning of time. And seeing that we would fail, and walk away from His straight path, He made up a saving plan right from the beginning. In different ways he redeemed his people through the Old Testament and found ways of sanctifying them like daily sacrifices, bringing them into union with Himself over and over again until His ultimate plan, Jesus, was fulfilled. Through the saviour He washed away all our sins once and for all.

God wants us to choose Him over everything

He is so compassionate, and knows that we are weak and hopeless without Him. He is always pleading with us to hear His gentle offer of life and watches on, with tears, how we lose ourselves to the cares and pleasures of this world.

But His one will is that you will use the freedom of choice the he has granted you, to choose life, to choose Him and to let Him save you. Will you choose Him?

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life.. Deuteronomy 30 : 19-20
