Last year, I got an oil burn on my hand. The wound was huge and the scar it left after 2 weeks was evident. I remember going to a pharmacy to get something that would prevent this wound from becoming a scar just 2 days after the accident and the pharmacist told me “it will not go, maybe with time it will get lighter and less visible but a scar will always be there” I went away and thank God for life and busy schedules for I never had a chance to worry about the scar or give it any attention.
But yesterday, as I was busy finishing my work, I just noticed from the corner of my eye that my scar, the one that was meant to be my mate all my life, was no where to be found. I took a closer look and examined the skin in the area. The skin was just as before. I don’t know when it disappeared because I was too busy to even notice or how it did, but it was gone. And in that one moment, I was just happy.
Today, as I thought about this, why this scar disappeared yet others remained, I realised we have been lied to. We have been told what we do leaves scars even when we are sorry. We have been told that if we are lucky to be forgiven, our wrong won’t be forgotten. It will leave marks behind and prices for us to pay. We have been told that we are defined by our mistakes and we shall carry our past along with us no matter how long and how hard we work on ourselves and change.
But today, I learnt from my scar, that while it is true that what we do or say leaves scars behind, there are scars that heal and we don’t have to be under that bondage. And this healing not only comes with time but also with the attitude of the broken person. So today I learnt from this very beautiful gesture my God did for me, that SCARS HEAL.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” – Revelations 21:4
I don’t know what you have been through or what you have done. I can not even begin to imagine how bad the pain, hurt and emotional abuse you went through was. Oh how much heavy the weight of guilt, hopelessness the burden of your past actions has put on your life. But I know that God is a Good of new beginnings.
“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” -Hebrews 8:12
He gives us new life. A new perspective, a new heart, and everything is possible in Him, through Him and by Him. He is the healer of all pain and all scars. For it is by His stripes that we were healed. And He wants to start a new page, and write your life story afresh. Leaving all past behind you. All He is asking is to trust Him to make all things good.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
